I plunked down my money on a new domain name today, set up the account and installed WordPress, then went to work on setting up an IMAP email account, moving 5 years of vintage email over to the new server. Everything went smoothly, except (there’s always one snag, just to keep life interesting) I couldn’t get the IMAP folder structure to work correctly on my Mac using the Mail application.
A post at HawkWings clued me into the fix I was looking for, setting me on the straight and narrow path. (INBOX needed to be included in the IMAP path) Thanks Tim.
This is the first site I’ve set up entirely in blogware, and I chose WordPress based soley on the raves it gets online from its many users. I’ve installed the K2 theme, and feel like I’m at the bottom peg of the learning curve, if curves have pegs, that is. It’s going to take some time before I have things looking and working the way I want, let alone understanding how I got them that way to begin with.
This is also the first time I’ve cut the content loose from the barn before the look and feel were all dialed in, but then this is a blog about my work as a filmmaker, photographer and web developer, so I’ve decided to embrace blogging by sharing my experiences in setting up the website as some of the initial posts to the site. I’m way out of my comfort zone with this approach, so I feel like I must be doing something right.
My goals for this site include:
- A place to have fun
- A place to showcase my work
- A place to share my experience with anyone interested in learning from my mistakes
- A place to learn new things myself
Above all, I’d like this site to be interesting, educational, and entertaining to folks who drop by. Please take a moment to write me and tell me whatever is on your mind.
Thanks, Chris
